iFail
so I completely did not follow through on my challenge to myself to use only one lens for the next 10 shots, or did I? I did not say when I would use that lens only that the next 10 that intend to post would be with a certain lens, and so since I have already shot the below photo I have not yet broke that challenge – that sounded complicated, on to the good stuff :)
Which camera is better
One of the first thing that people ask when they see my photo’s is – WOW – you must have a nice camera or what kind of camera do you use?? I have touched on the this subject in the past I believe – however I cant seem to find the post. So one of the following questions is “Which is better, Nikon or Canon?” This is simple: Both are great pieces of equipment. At the high end spectrum each offer a great body with similar features. This comes down to preference as well as previously owned equipment. If you have a lot of glass built up then you will mostly choose that brand, if you are just getting started that is a bit more in depth question to ponder. But all in all they both make really great cameras. Both companies also offer enticing videos of a product to help persuade the potential buyers. Below are two of my favorite videos from Nikon and one from a third party for Canon. I will admit that the Nikon D800 video really hit me in the soft spot and I think that it was really really well done. I almost chose the Nikon D800 over the Canon 5D III – but this video had nothing to do with that decision ;-)

Today’s Photo | Laser’s into the night
I was out shooting really close to my house one night and caught this scene as the clouds moved one way, the laser’s from the cars came right to me.
New challenge for myself
I am going to attempt, I say attempt because I am not going to miss a photo because of a personal challenge, to take the next 10 photo’s with a particular lens. I usually shoot the 17-40L for most landscapes and HDR’s – I am going to try a little something and see how it works out :)
Today’s photo
Caught this little guy all by itself asking for me to capture it – I did my best :)
Dream a little dream…
What are your dreams? What is it that if you could do you would do? What is it that keeps you from doing it? I have been pondering this question lately as I walk by someone who looks like they are having a bad day and needs hug….which BTW I am NOT a hugger!! But even so it makes me wonder about peoples dreams and aspirations and what keeps them doing the 9-5 thing daily.

One of my favorite times to shoot is sunset – the colors, the clouds the atmosphere it just speaks to me. Now I will say that Sunrise is equally awesome however I am NOT a morning person at all (there you have learned two new things about me). I took this photo 30 seconds from my house and boy was it a gorgeous night and sunset. As fall breaks upon us I look forward to shooting more sunsets :)
Tangent
Have you ever tried to help someone and no matter how hard you try they just want to argue with an area that they have asked for your help on? It drives me nuts when someone wants your help then refuses to listen… Tangent over :)
Today’s photo
Well, I have been traveling a bunch lately (for work not pleasure) – now that I am back I thought that I would give you a view of my ride most of the time while I was gone :). I took this while in the airport in Houston I believe. I was sitting there and saw it, and wanted to take it but did not have my tripod or anything. I got the camera out anyways and walked over there studied the scene for a little while people were looking at me like I was crazy. I ignored them and took a few shots, this is the one I liked the most :)
First Video Release??
Well, here is a short video that I did (low resolution for now, might upload an HD version later). The music is from a very good friend of mine Vince Gard – hope you enjoy it! If I was in a more talkitive mood I would bore you with a bunch of banter…lucky for you I am not :)
Horizon
How often do you make plans then change your mind? I would like to encourage you to to follow through with whatever it is that you set your mind to accomplish. If you feel strongly about something, let nothing hold you back nor let anyone speak negativity to your dream. I have many things left to accomplish on this earth, I have a list of 3-4 things at the top on my horizon, I will pick them off one by one :)
There are many people that will try to bring you down, change your opinion or disagree with certain things. I have this happen a lot from things like as simple as what phone I feel is the best (errrmmm iPhone vs Android) to how I process a photo – dont get me wrong here some of the disagreement or negative comments need to be heard, but don’t let them waiver you on the core of what you feel. If you are going to grow in something you need to hear the bad as well as the good so dont take every remark that is not glowing as a cut down, rather hear it and analyze it looking for the intent of the comment. If that made no sense let me know and I will try to explain it in more detail.

Here is a photo that gets me back to my love – it is not secret that I love well done HDR (no, I am not saying that this an example of well done HDR – though I admit that I am happy with how it came out) and that I dont think that post processing is the devil – yes there are some that say you cant edit a photo. There are times (such as photo journalism) that editing a photo is not okay, however for the purposes of art I feel that the magic is made there. I have a very love and hate relationship with post processing – I could edit a photo for hours or over days before it is ready. A friend of mine recently gave me a great piece of advice – he said edit, edit and then edit 5 more times if you have too, the great thing is we can go right back to step one with the RAW file if needed to get to the outcome that we want and that represents us as photographers well. I may have put that in my own words, but that is what I got out of it. This came when editing a photo of a model which I dont do that often.
Going, going, going….
So I have been on the go for a while now, not traveling for photography but rather my normal job. I am very fortunate to have a great job and am thankful for it, I am excited to get back to my normal day to day life after a bunch of travel though. Do you have a job that takes you about? Do you enjoy traveling here and there?
Lot’s and lots of work (and titles that repeat at least one word :))
So I have neglected my processing and photography for a while now, I have a ton of photos sitting there waiting for me to look at them, so many in fact that I cant really remember what I have and where I shot at. I think I am going to change from my uber organized folders and subfolders to one big photo dump that has all my photos so that none of them get overlooked. The problem I have now is having to go in and look at each of those folder…I know the way I currently have everything that I will be overlooking some possible good shots.
Side note – I will be updating the reviews and gear page real soon – watch for it :)
Today’s Photo (just a clever title, to clarify I dont care to be a rock star ;-))
So I took this shot while with the Drink N Click crew in Austin one night. This was the drummer for a group here in Austin called Guilty Pleasures if my memory server me correctly. She enjoyed getting her photo taken and was being playful (and not just on the drums smart @$$’s:)). I dont normally shoot this type of shot, but I do admit that it was fun since she was game.
And here is a rare thing from me – technical details of the shot –
Camera: Canon 5D Mark III
Tv value: 1/100 (0.01s)
Av value: F/1.8
ISO: 1600
Lens: Canon 50mm (Nifty 50)
Not much to say today other than…
I cant wait to get home and process from photos! I have a lot that are just sitting there waiting on me to do something with them. I often get asked about photo’s that I have taken and where they are? I must admit that I have a weird workflow when it comes to taking the photos and then processing them. I could probably stand to dial this process in a bit and make it a little more streamlined and structured especially since I tend to be OCD about everything. This is a small part of my life that is a bit disorganized. My process is simple though – go take photos, come home, dump photos to folder, briefly look, if anything catches my eye start processing it but often times they lay there dormant for a while and I come back to them and pluck a few out to process. So you might see an image today that I took months ago sometimes years ago.
Today’s Photo
This little guy came and landed on my oldest son while we were at lunch in a butterfly house. There were a ton of monarchs roaming about and this guy just landed like he was saying “look at me, I am more interesting, turn your camera this way and shoot me!”
Today’s Photo
Can you name this little guy? I thought that it was stink bug at first, but it is not. A little bit of googling let me know that I was wrong. I have never seen this thing before and not sure I ever will again.
Upcoming…
I have been asked more and more about my processing, taking photos etc. I had mentioned a while ago that I would be doing behind the scenes videos and maybe even tutorials, I have been asked more frequently about this type of thing lately, I might just do one and see how it goes :)
Also dont forget as I mentioned in my last post that Jeremi Blurton and I will be hosting a Google+ photowalk in the Dayton area very soon. We might even go grab a drink afterwards :)
Today’s Photo
Well, while in town after work yesterday I headed over to this super secret place that my friend Nicolai McCrary shared with me. While there I shot quite a few things. I know being away from the family and my two sons for so long kind of was wearing on me, getting out and shooting really helped my mood. I put the headphones in and spent quite a while walking this place and shooting various things. I dont have my computer to process the images as I normally do, but was excited to get at least one of these out, so I will have to look at it when I get home and see how it really came out :)
Thank you to all of those that came to hang out with me while here and invited me out to various different events – this really helped me keep my mind off being away.
by Chris LehmanHello, all!!!
Been a bit absent lately, sorry I have been really busy with a lot of life creeping up and happening. I will get back to shooting and posting soon I hope.
Dayton Ohio Google+ photo walk
Well, myself and Jeremi Blurton (a friend that I shoot with a lot) will be hosting a Google+ photo walk really soon. You can let us know that you are going or have interest or spread the word by clicking here
Today’s Photo
Here is a shot that I thought that I posted a long time ago when I first started the blog, but looking back through the archives I realize that I did not. So here it is :)
I took at one of my favorite spots to shoot, and I think that I am going to have to go back and shoot there again because it has been a while.

Today’s Photo
Not much to say about this one or anything in general today – I will say click to see a larger size – it looks much better in a larger size.
Guess whose back…back again…
Well, I have been having such a fun time posting my non-usual photos that I forgot that I had this one sitting there waiting to post. This does not mean that I am back to posting only those types of shots – just the opposite – I will be mixing back and forth depending on mood I suppose :)
Off track
Let’s get off track for a moment – if you dont want to ride along – feel free to just skip to view today’s daily photo.
Having said that – who is looking forward to “The Avengers” coming to BluRay??? I cant wait! I believe that it is coming to stores and digital media on September 25th – are you going to preorder? You bet I am!! I love that movie and think that EVERYONE should watch it as well as Thor – yes I am a big geek and love the superhero movies – guess which one is my favorite?
Heck I might give away a free print if you guess it correctly – and if we have talked about it and you know you are not allowed to give it away!
Today’s Photo
A month or so back you might remember me posting an instagram photo from behind the scenes – you can see that photo by clicking here and the resulting shot below –
Sentimental
Well, Today I am not going to be to sentimental, however I believe in remembering those that are near to you even when they have passed on. There is not a day that has gone by that I have not remembered my Grandmother and Grandfather, today’s photo is hint of that explained below
Today’s Photo
If any of you know me, or my family or knew my grandmother and grandfather you would know why we have these tremendous feelings for them. Today would have been my grandmothers birthday and though she is gone for this earth she celebrates still in heaven. This photo was really captivating to me, as I walked up upon it’s view it said so much to me personally. This is also the cemetery where a lot of my family, friends and friends family have been laid to rest. Many goodbyes have been said here and the somber mood of the photo should be met with the fact that there hanging on the cross is the one that will allow us to see them again. I suggest clicking on the the photo to see it larger (as with all the shots here)
Today’s Photo
Well, here is another shot in the series to shoot non HDR and non typical Chris photos. Is this flower magical? Never know :) but to me it is inviting and soothing which in itself is quite magical.
