      Today’s Photo
Nothing much to banter about, not in a social mood today. This was a quick hurry and get your camera and I snapped off the hip before I could really adjust for what I was shooting. Anyways, the tilt was on purpose. Enjoy :)

      Today’s Photo
I felt that this one need to look antiqueish and mysterious. I also felt that I wanted it to be painterly with some texture and noise. Here is the image I settled on – I like it for now, yet tomorrow I may not…

    • May 13thThe Union Terminal

      Today’s Photo
Took this a while back and thought that I had posted it – it is the outside of Union Terminal Station in Cincinnati. It is quite a photogenic place. Though inside – you might get yelled at for taking pictures like I did. I asked if they had rules on photography they said yes, I asked to see them and they could not produce them. They said as long as I take pictures of the structure inside or out without people in them I was allowed to shoot – I stood there and scratched my head….take a photo…inside at the museum…without getting anyone in it?? After that ordeal I did contact the museum and emailed a few times with someone that was quite nice. I still need to get with her to see if I can setup a super secret photowalk :)

PS: And have you ever had a photo that by the graph says it is straight, yet you look at it and say – there is no way this is straight? This is that photo for me – I cant get it to where I am happy with it to save myself.

    • May 6thLong corridor at night

      Cincy fun!
Well, went out to shoot in Cincyish (<---- not a word I know I do this from time to time), someone forgot to tell the rain that it was not needed that day, and so it was cold wet rain from above tried to embark on this adventure. Needless to say that the camera did not get out, however the trip was fun and location scouting in the rain has never been so great. I will go back soon - before it is 100 degrees and scorching...and yes the location is still secret to only those that know...do you know?

      Today’s Photo
While coming back from a photowalk (Where I shot this as well Christmas Lights ) myself and another photographer came through this corridor, it was freezing cold and we just wanted some heat…I turned around and saw this and said – hold on I am shooting this. I got the – “huh?” look, but paid no attention and proceeded setting up. Now this is a bit of an optical illusion as it was not as long as it seems on the photo. This is not something magical that I did in post processing but rather it is inherent of the lens choice. I was using a wide-angle lens which tends to narrow things out in the center of the frame adding a bit of depth with the right composure. Anyways – hope you enjoy the photo – I thought for sure that I was going to lose a hand to frostbite…

      Scouting Cincy!!
I have been wanting to shoot in Cincinnati for a while, there are a few places that I have shot and a few that I marked on my list to shoot, I am going to be going there very soon and am currently scouting for places to shoot, so if you know anywhere feel free to drop a note in the comments section.

      Today’s Photo
This is one of those that I keep looking at and just could not come up with anything at all. I will call it a mind block and move on. This was taken from the National Museum of the USAF which is one of my all time favorite places to shoot. I need to head back real soon to shoot it again, I always find something new and interesting to shoot there.

    • Apr 26thGolden Morning at Norris

      Where have you been???
Well, I have been all over shooting some but not enough. The weather is warming up and I am excited to be doing some photowalks to not only help teach others and get enthusiasm for photography but also to just get out and have some fun and meeting interesting people :). I have a few exciting announcements that I will be able to share soon so stay tuned :)

      Today’s Photo
So I was up in the mountains in a place that most cell phones dont work – this is both a blessing and a curse. It is awesome to be able to unplug a bit however when you are addicted to your phone as I am it is very aggervating at the same time. I felt like I was at an intervention or something :)

Anyways – the below photo was taken on the morning that I left. We went down to the lake and the kids were getting some energy out before the drive home, and I of course saw the morning fog rising and grabbed my camera. It was muddy and crazy however totally awesome at the same time. The warmth of the sun and the sparkle of the water reflections combined with the rising of the “smoke” was just fabulous. I cant wait to go back and shoot some more!

      Today’s Photo
This was taken inside a restaurant and originally I did not think that this was going to be one that I released. But after staring at it for months now it has grown on me and maybe it will grow on you to…maybe.

    • Apr 2ndReflections…

      Today’s Photo
This one was really really fun to shoot. I did something different on this one, typically you find a leading line that draws your eye to the main subject. In this that leading line is reversed, I think that it worked in this situation and am quite happy with the shot. Rules are just guidelines and I think that it is good to try new things. I took a video of this – my very first behind the scenes video, however I did not like how it turned out so I dont think that I am going to post it. Part of the reason is that I took it setup in portrait mode and I shot this in both portrait and landscape and liked the landscape better. The other reason is I just fumbled around and it just was not good.

Anyways – I was shooting this, the kids were in the care playing their video games (which is great for keeping them consumed while I driving around looking to capture the moment), it was snowing like made, it was cold and the scene was just truly beautiful. So there I was all setup and ready to shoot my first shot, tripod down and sure enough – car comes and I have to grab my gear and run off the road. Then I got all setup again and decided to record a behind the scenes, then I decided I wanted to shoot it again in landscape mode and a couple appeared on the other side of the bridge slowly walking through and enjoying the winter wonderland. I waited them and as they got to where I was setup, the gentleman carrying a DSLR stopped and looked and said “WOW! He is capturing the…that is so cool!…” you fill in the blanks ;-)

      Technical Detail
Canon 5D III, Canon 17-40L, shot at F/11 and ISO 100, 5 shot exposure from -2 to +2

    • Feb 10thRolling Storm

      Not been shooting….
So I cant remember the last time that I actually decided to go shoot something interesting for me, I have been shooting things that I have to but not that I want to – huge difference. So maybe I can get back to basics and go looking for some creative juices to flow…

      Today’s Photo
As this storm rolled through I quickly grabbed my camera and took off to try to capture something out of it. I ended up 2 minutes from house (that two minutes was a flat run) and setup to find this dramatic moving of the clouds. I was hoping the storm would slow down and give me more time to setup and shoot but it did not. I often at times like to study the scene and what is going on and then setup at various angles and positions taking a wide variety of shots. This was a holy smokes!!! Just shoot! Here is what was captured….

    • Jan 27thLove Field…

      Exciting New Year?
So are you one of those people that do New Years Resolutions? I am not, I never keep them is why. What is your resolution this year?

      Today’s Photo – Love Field…
I can tell you for sure that there was absolutely NO LOVE for this field! This place was full of shady people and the most annoying mosquitoes that were the size of eagles. These things were literally flying around EVERYWHERE I cant count the amount of bites I got while trying to get something. What I was wanting was to get some plane trails as this is the landing path at an airport. However while waiting I saw the moon and really liked the scene so I walked over got setup and was shooting this when three planes flew over that I missed. I got so chewed up from the pesky mosquito’s that I said forget it and packed up and ran back to the car.

    • Dec 28thGhost of Christmas Past?

Today’s Photo – Ghost of Christmas Past?
Ok, well not really…but thought that it was a clever title :)

My youngest son and I went out Christmas light looking – this old bridged seemed like a great thing to shoot until the rush of others came across it. But while that was happening I got a vision in my head (not that of sugar plums silly) and this photo is the result of that. This is a way over done extreme edit that I dont normally go except certain situations and this is one of them. Feel free to leave a comment. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

    • Dec 16thChristmas Wonderland

Where is the snow and junk???
So it is Christmas, but here in Ohio someone has forgotten to tell mother nature that we would like to have some snow and stuff…I really love this time of year and with it I would really like to have some cold and snow. I love hot fires in the buck stove, looking outside and seeing snow and frost – all things that go with Christmas time. I am going to do something a little different today and post a couple shots in here you dont mind do you?

      Today’s Photo – Christmas Wonderland
There is this great historic place called Clifton Mill that most people from this area know about. Me and my youngest son went there last night and had a great time. We got there early and it was rainy so we waited for it to stop and then went in. Though we should have checked the website first – the lights dont come on until 6pm my idea was to get there early and take dramatic shots of the clouds etc – well that was completely foiled. I am going to have to talk with them really nicely and see if I am able to get them to turn them on early just for me :-D. So anyways the two shots – one of the “program” they hand out and one of the mill and lights. I love going to this place and will back again to shoot more of it. Also as a reminder you can click on any of them images to go to my portfolio and see larger sizes.

    • Dec 14thChristmas Lights

      Today’s photo – Christmas Lights
While shooting with my buddy Jeremi we came across this great scene. So as I shot this he decided to shoot this happy couple on their two week anniversary…now one part of me says – wait he was shooting something that can make him money and I shot only this…but then I look at it and think – I hope someone buys this to hand on their wall :)

I think that this one looks so much better than than the Nations tree in Washington which I got to see while traveling as well. Thoughts?

      Randomness
So randomness is something that when you write you grow accustomed to. Though sometimes the randomness gets a little bit to random to make sense out of the random thoughts that often come out randomly… see what I did there – totally random….carry on :)

Today’s Photo – Dark of the night
All so often I look for very dramatic scenes. Clouds, sunrises, sunsets, rain etc. All to often this makes me pass up a lot of good shots that I would not normally take. I remember going to shoot this church and I was rushing to find it and beat the sun going down on me. When I got there there was a wedding that was finishing and I had to wait or crash the wedding…

So I had beat the sunset, there were not any dramatic clouds or anything and I sat there getting uptight about the sun going down while waiting on the wedding to clear out I thought to myself well this is going to stink, I made it here, beat the sunset, ready to shoot and now I am watching the sun go down, blue hour quickly fading and I am not going to get to shoot this awesome place.

So after the wedding cleared out I walked around looking at different angles seeing if I could actually get any decent shots. I came up with this one and I am glad that stuck around to shoot it even though it was not what I had planned.
