      Upcoming events
Excited for some upcoming events that I am going to be going on and hosting – more to come later – stay tuned!! Some secret and some public :)

      Today’s Photo
This was taken inside a restaurant and originally I did not think that this was going to be one that I released. But after staring at it for months now it has grown on me and maybe it will grow on you to…maybe.

      Exciting New Year?
So are you one of those people that do New Years Resolutions? I am not, I never keep them is why. What is your resolution this year?

      Today’s Photo – Love Field…
I can tell you for sure that there was absolutely NO LOVE for this field! This place was full of shady people and the most annoying mosquitoes that were the size of eagles. These things were literally flying around EVERYWHERE I cant count the amount of bites I got while trying to get something. What I was wanting was to get some plane trails as this is the landing path at an airport. However while waiting I saw the moon and really liked the scene so I walked over got setup and was shooting this when three planes flew over that I missed. I got so chewed up from the pesky mosquito’s that I said forget it and packed up and ran back to the car.

      Randomness
So randomness is something that when you write you grow accustomed to. Though sometimes the randomness gets a little bit to random to make sense out of the random thoughts that often come out randomly… see what I did there – totally random….carry on :)

Today’s Photo – Dark of the night
All so often I look for very dramatic scenes. Clouds, sunrises, sunsets, rain etc. All to often this makes me pass up a lot of good shots that I would not normally take. I remember going to shoot this church and I was rushing to find it and beat the sun going down on me. When I got there there was a wedding that was finishing and I had to wait or crash the wedding…

So I had beat the sunset, there were not any dramatic clouds or anything and I sat there getting uptight about the sun going down while waiting on the wedding to clear out I thought to myself well this is going to stink, I made it here, beat the sunset, ready to shoot and now I am watching the sun go down, blue hour quickly fading and I am not going to get to shoot this awesome place.

So after the wedding cleared out I walked around looking at different angles seeing if I could actually get any decent shots. I came up with this one and I am glad that stuck around to shoot it even though it was not what I had planned.

    • Nov 14thMissed, but never forgotten

      Uh Oh…
I am lost for words this time…

This normally doesnt happen, I am usually able to pop something out except for when I am sick or have a made a mistake (which I dont tend to handle well – whose with me???)

Which is it this time??? You figure it out :)

      Today’s photo
While working in Austin on a Sunday, I took off for a few hours to get some relax time in – I had been working there all and on the road for a while and really needed to relax. I put on the headphones and went off to this super secret place that a good friend of mine recommended, the vast array of things that I was able to shoot there was just awesome. This is not a typical Chris shot, but hey who says I only have to shoot one style or one thing?? It is about “Capturing the Moment” – that is kinda my tag line for many things that I shoot.

Anyways – does anyone know what kind of flower this is? And does anyone see anything in the photo that doesnt pop out?? Yeah hidden nugget go find it!!

    • Nov 10thStrumming my Guitar

      Been crazy busy!!!
So I have not been able to post anything in a while, I have photos there to post just have not had time to post them. This is normally how I do this –

Take photos, dump them, pick one off to edit, upload to my gallery awaiting posting. Then I will go in and write a blog posting with a picture that I am feeling like posting (you lost yet?? Good hang in there) and the I schedule that to post at a certain time which also post to twitter for me. Today is the exception as I am writing this one live, today in the flesh.

So now that you are all totally confused and have listened to me ramble I shall get on with today’s photo.

      Today’s Photo
While in Austin one night I went out with a group from G+. We went to all different places, in and out of bars listening to local music and just having a great time. We walked in to this little bar that had some music going, and as I listened all I heard was “screaming”. Now I am a fan of all kinds of music – this week I have remembered a lot of songs that I thought I had forgotten but not really forgotten – yeah that made sense…however this type of “screaming” I am not a fan of. However seeing the music being played and the musicians creating this noise (to me this is noise and I dont understand the music behind it) it was fun to see them talk between songs and then turn on the scream for the song. This was the guitarist and the lead vocals, I made the lead look as scary as it sounded in there(yes, you get two photos today :)).

    • Oct 6thA little more back to my love…

      Horizon
How often do you make plans then change your mind? I would like to encourage you to to follow through with whatever it is that you set your mind to accomplish. If you feel strongly about something, let nothing hold you back nor let anyone speak negativity to your dream. I have many things left to accomplish on this earth, I have a list of 3-4 things at the top on my horizon, I will pick them off one by one :)

There are many people that will try to bring you down, change your opinion or disagree with certain things. I have this happen a lot from things like as simple as what phone I feel is the best (errrmmm iPhone vs Android) to how I process a photo – dont get me wrong here some of the disagreement or negative comments need to be heard, but don’t let them waiver you on the core of what you feel. If you are going to grow in something you need to hear the bad as well as the good so dont take every remark that is not glowing as a cut down, rather hear it and analyze it looking for the intent of the comment. If that made no sense let me know and I will try to explain it in more detail.

      Today’s Photo
Here is a photo that gets me back to my love – it is not secret that I love well done HDR (no, I am not saying that this an example of well done HDR – though I admit that I am happy with how it came out) and that I dont think that post processing is the devil – yes there are some that say you cant edit a photo. There are times (such as photo journalism) that editing a photo is not okay, however for the purposes of art I feel that the magic is made there. I have a very love and hate relationship with post processing – I could edit a photo for hours or over days before it is ready. A friend of mine recently gave me a great piece of advice – he said edit, edit and then edit 5 more times if you have too, the great thing is we can go right back to step one with the RAW file if needed to get to the outcome that we want and that represents us as photographers well. I may have put that in my own words, but that is what I got out of it. This came when editing a photo of a model which I dont do that often.

    • Oct 5thI wanna be a rock star…

      Going, going, going….
So I have been on the go for a while now, not traveling for photography but rather my normal job. I am very fortunate to have a great job and am thankful for it, I am excited to get back to my normal day to day life after a bunch of travel though. Do you have a job that takes you about? Do you enjoy traveling here and there?

Lot’s and lots of work (and titles that repeat at least one word :))
So I have neglected my processing and photography for a while now, I have a ton of photos sitting there waiting for me to look at them, so many in fact that I cant really remember what I have and where I shot at. I think I am going to change from my uber organized folders and subfolders to one big photo dump that has all my photos so that none of them get overlooked. The problem I have now is having to go in and look at each of those folder…I know the way I currently have everything that I will be overlooking some possible good shots.

Side note – I will be updating the reviews and gear page real soon – watch for it :)

Today’s Photo (just a clever title, to clarify I dont care to be a rock star ;-))
So I took this shot while with the Drink N Click crew in Austin one night. This was the drummer for a group here in Austin called Guilty Pleasures if my memory server me correctly. She enjoyed getting her photo taken and was being playful (and not just on the drums smart @$$’s:)). I dont normally shoot this type of shot, but I do admit that it was fun since she was game.

And here is a rare thing from me – technical details of the shot –
      Camera: Canon 5D Mark III
      Tv value: 1/100 (0.01s)
      Av value: F/1.8
      ISO: 1600
      Lens: Canon 50mm (Nifty 50)

    • Sep 23rdA little of my norm

      Upcoming…
I have been asked more and more about my processing, taking photos etc. I had mentioned a while ago that I would be doing behind the scenes videos and maybe even tutorials, I have been asked more frequently about this type of thing lately, I might just do one and see how it goes :)

Also dont forget as I mentioned in my last post that Jeremi Blurton and I will be hosting a Google+ photowalk in the Dayton area very soon. We might even go grab a drink afterwards :)

      Today’s Photo
Well, while in town after work yesterday I headed over to this super secret place that my friend Nicolai McCrary shared with me. While there I shot quite a few things. I know being away from the family and my two sons for so long kind of was wearing on me, getting out and shooting really helped my mood. I put the headphones in and spent quite a while walking this place and shooting various things. I dont have my computer to process the images as I normally do, but was excited to get at least one of these out, so I will have to look at it when I get home and see how it really came out :)

Thank you to all of those that came to hang out with me while here and invited me out to various different events – this really helped me keep my mind off being away.

      Ideas turning in my head
Well, being creative for me is something that just makes me feel better. After a good creative day sometimes I am worn out but sometimes I am recharged. I have a few Ideas spinning in my head that I hope come to reality. When it does, I am sure that you will love it!

      Today’s Photo
Well, I was kind of worn out and after heading out to shoot a sunset – and then not getting to shoot the thing because I got kicked out of the park I was shooting…I came back grouchier than normal. Funny thing is I started looking through shots that I have yes to process and I found this shot. It is a familiar tree that you have seen in some of my other shots, however this time shot quite different. I did shoot this in HDR, however I did not process this with HDR. This is a single shot, simply processed lightly in LR4. I was feeling warm when I processed it and hope that you feel warm too. This is not a Bonzai tree…but looks like it :)

    • May 11thCenter Rage???

Well, I have not been posting regularly – sorry about that! Been tied up with a lot of stuff – no excuses though.

I took this shot while in Austin. I remember running across the road to get the this shot (< - - click me) and looking up and saying HOLY @#$%@#%$ I have to go get THAT SHOT!!! There was something inviting and interesting to me of how the road seemed endless to the horizon that could be seen even with the Pennybacker bridge there. So I stopped mid stream (while the 3-4 others kept going) and I ran down to spot I wanted to set up. After getting back home and downloading all these shots, I remember looking at this one and saying – meh, I dont like, not even going to process it. I came back to it a week or so later and this is the resulting shot –

    • May 1stAs they look on

I caught this scene in Austin on the G+ photo walk. I got there a little early (to make sure that I got a parking spot). When I got to the top with a few others, there was this young couple sitting there taking in the sunset. As I looked around I thought – why not shoot it now before the sun really sets? So I walked over, setup and got this shot just as they gazed at each other. A sweet tender moment. I normally do not shoot landscapes with people in them, however I think that this added to the shot this time.

    • Apr 29thPennybacker Bridge at Sunset

Where to start with this one? This one holds a very special place in my heart, the starts aligned as I just happen to be in Texas, in Austin at the same time that Lotus Carroll and Gino Barasa had a photowalk to somewhere that I have been wanting to shoot since seeing many shots of it. The shoot was amazing – I met so many nice people that were kind as well as encouraging and helpful. My first G+ walk was awesome and here one of the shots that I got from it. Most of the shots of this bridge are taken on the other side, however me and a few others ran across the highway (not jaywalking of course, why do you ask??) to shoot it from the more rare angle.

What we have here is what space might look like. The elements in this shot to me were just fascinating. What is your favorite aspect here?
